'Final Proposal'
In this section of the assignment I will be outlining my documentary's aims, content, target audience, format, genre and style.
Aim:My documentary aim is to inform my target audience about the possibility of a zombie apocalypse occurring in the future. However this documentary is purely based on how realistic it actually is as a raise of interest for zombie has opened, this niche market will allow me to gain knowledge myself as well as my audience. During my production I will make sure all individuals are only shown within my documentary if I have their permission as their privacy will be respected.
Content:The content of my documentary I will be including a variety of object (fasts) and subjective (opinions) information throughout my documentary in order to ensure a balance to prevent my zombie show from being biased. The people who I will be interview are related to my topic in one way or another as this will range from vox pops, zombie experts and doctors/science consultants. I will be also giving relevant updates such as summaries to keep my target audience update so they are able to follow as this will enable me to attract and retain viewers. I will also make sure all content include in my documentary is truthfully and accurate.
Target Audience:My target audience based on my documentary is aimed to British individuals; both genders, all races who are aged from sixteen to twenty four years. Format:The format of my documentary will have a mode which participatory. This will include a presenter who will be taking part during the production process of my documentary however they are not the main subject. My presenter will not influence any of the information told to my audience as they will be asking the essential questions which is based on my aim. Therefore will allow my target audience to create their own judgement on is shown to them as my presenter will state her opinion once the documentary has come to the end. Each situation will have a necessary purpose within my documentary due to it playing out similar to existing participatory mode in today's magazine shows.
Genre:
Genre:
My genre will be a documentary as this will be a factual television programme. The structure will be set out as a documentary through realism, narrative and dramatisation included rather than an exact magazine show where games and competitions are commonly included. This will allow me to get straight to the point as my documentary will include a variety of interviews- subjective and objective views, videos and images.
Style:
Style:
Throughout my documentary will have a range of styles containing the; camera work, editing, graphics and sound. As I will be filming my documentary in different locations to make it interesting and engage my audience throughout as well as different camera movements, voice overs, green screens and back ground music. This will enable me to make it different and entertaining due to the dramatisation include. A similar documentary I will be trying to imitate will be something like vice documentaries which are mainly participatory and include of all realism, narrative and occasionally dramatisation.
Camera work- When filming during my production process I will make sure a variety of shots are used for example close up to view as individual facial expression so my audience are aware of how each subject is feeling as this will enable them to create their own impression of what they see. Another example will be mid shot as well as establishing shot in order to gain a sense of realism as the camera will be at eye level throughout.
Graphics- I will be using graphics during the post-production stage as a part of the editing this enable me to add another way of getting the information gathered across as well as used to state each sections of the documentary and credits at the end of the show.
Editing- The editing process enable me to include different effects and style to the overall documentary for the entertaining purpose of it as this will allow me to enagage them through a creative flair ranging from transitions to cuts, videos/images and many more.
Sound- The sounds used within my documentary will range from both digetic and non digetic sound such as music, voice over, speaking during interviews and other sounds that might be heard on the camera which adds realism to it overall.

'Analysing the Competition'
In this assignment I will be using BARB through comparing three shows that are currently on TV similar to mine, as this will include of a similar content and target audience. Each of these shows will be drawn from different channels.
Show one;
The title of this show is called 'Zombie flesh eaters' which is a documentary film that is shown on the horror channel. Due to the channel it is show on the target audience for it determines the broadcast time as it is shown at 09.00 pm. As the horror channels target audience is aged around 18+ which is similar to my target audience.The shows viewing figures for the past week is 34,000 thousand viewers. From the viewing figures this enables me to see that the channel has an impacts on the audience due to it not being mainstream as well as the timescale of the broadcasting time. Some of the similarities the shows format content has with my own is the zombie based topic. However the comparison between my initial idea and zombie flesh eaters has a slight difference due to it being a film rather than a documentary as we can their is no presenters, narrative or interviews. As my documentary will include of all three realism, narrativisation and dramatizations, Zombie flesh eaters only contains dramatization due to it being fiction and subjective as this is done purely for entertainment purposes. Whereas my documentary will include of both facts and opinion. In terms of my show this will effect the viewing figures comparing to this show 'Zombie flesh eaters'as my documentary will be shown on a popular televsion channel BBC Three which is specificily aimed to a specific audience from 16-30 which is effectient as my target audience is aimed to 16 to 24 year olds. I also believe that the figures will increase as there are repeats which will enable the individuals to access BBC Three channels as it is mainstream, as the horror channel is not accessible to those without Sky, BT or other boardbrand boxes. Another reason why it may beat these viewing figures is due to my documentary being a niche market this will attract audiences as a result of a zombie apocalypse show, shown on BBC Three.

Show two;
The title of this second show is called 'In the flesh' shown on BBC Three. The timing of this show is shown at
09.00 pm, due to the nature of the documentary soap this timescale is appropriate, as it is aimed to a target audience ranging from 16-28 year olds. The shows viewing figures for the past week is 700,000 thousands views. Some of the similarities with the shows content is that it is based on a reenactment mimicking a zombie apocalypse that contains individual that have caught an infectious virus. However the format with the show and my documentary is different as it is not a magazine show it does not include any realism or narrativisation. The format of the layout will be different however I will include dramatisation in order to make it entertaining so the layout will be similar due to the fiction side of the documentary. My show may beat 'In the flesh' viewing figures due to the hour eariler timing as well as it being shown on the weekend which enables my target audience to watch it as many of the targeted audience will be at home due to it being shown one prime time hours. The signifcant of my documentary being shown on BBC Three will impact the statical viewing figures as that channel is specific aimed to a younger audience ranging from 16-33. As my documentary has not been done before on the BBC Three channel I will be including a range of realism and narrative to help engage and retain the audience whilst watching the documentary.

Show three;
The title of the third show is called 'Mythbusters: zombie special' shown on the discovery channel. The broadcasting time for Mythbusters is shown at 07.00 pm. Due to some of the graphic images of frightening zombies the timescale is based on the content of the show. The shows viewing figures for the past week had sixty thousand views. Some of the similarities with the shows format and content is based on the zombie topic which they research information based on that topic to see whether the main subject of the show is a myth or factual. As Mythbusters are also a documentary magazine show the format of it being based on a participatory mode the comparisons between my documentary and this show are the presenter who take part within the show as well as the consent summary (narrative) with what is going on. My documentary may beat this shows viewing figures as it will be on a mainstream channel that will engage more of my target audience as the discovery channel is slightly more difficult due to it not being mainstream as this is also not a channel really targeted towards an audience age range 16-24. This will impact the viewing figures for my documentary on BBC Three as more people will be able to view and access the channel.

A summary based on the reasearch that I have gathered overall the most effective day and boardcast time according to BARB what best suit my documentary magazine show from 08.00 pm on a Saturday. The reasons for this is due to my documentary being a stand alone show where no follow will occur, this enable me to engage my audience through the time and day as most of my target audience I have asked whether they would perfer to watch a documentary on the weekend. The information I have garthered from barb show that documentaries such as 'In the flesh' have a successful viewing figures due to the day as this will enable me to gain as much views from my target audience as possible.

'Secondary Research - 5 Questions'
In this section I will be researching a minimum of five questions which I will hope to use within my documentary.
Who, What, Why, When, Where and How.
1) Who came up with the creations of zombies and where did they originate from? The creator of the animated fictional characters of 'zombies' is difficult to pin point to a certain individual but from the research I have gathered I am able have am idea of where the "infectious dead humans rise" in order to take revenge on mankind. Some stories are subjective from the ancient tribal people of West Africa/Haiti. Haitian folklore relates zombies with witch craft as they are individual who believe have unfinished business that needs to be completed. The mythology origin of zombies have developed dramatically in today society from spirit to a virus infection, impacted by the media through misleading films and television programs.
This will help me to develop my idea for my documentary as I will use this for a basic guideline then try relate all the information I receive from each interviewees on who it has developed in time comparing to the mythological creature in the early 1900's. During the start of the documentary I will give an introduction based on a summary of 'who and where' to engages my target audience within the first minute as they may not have the knowledge this will enable them to have a rough idea of what the documentary will include.

2) How realistic is a zombie apocalypse? During my research on how realistic a zombie apocalypse is I found out how possible it could be to occur some factors of this range from; brain parasites, neurotoxins, the real rage virus, neurogenesis and finally nanobots. The facts of scientific evidence suggest it could happen through the brain sending different signals that effects mentality. All of these proofs have been dramatised in order for film and game purposes, however scientists have claimed to cause and produce these viruses that cause a zombie like creation. Another believe is based on evolution where humans have developed significantly due to nano robots keeping a person who has died living through in the brain as connections and signs are send throughout the body to keep it up and moving. The result of this virus in an apocalypse is believed to end human existence by eating their flesh or also catching the virus.
The information that I have gained from the secondary source will allow me to develop different individual opinions for example 'vox pops, the presenter and experts'. As this will enable my target audience to create their own judgement on the topic.

http://zombieapocalypseacademy.org/history-of-a-zombie/
3) What possible protection do we have in case of this situation does occur? Based on my topic questions how realistic it actually is the facts and opinions received will impact the protection we have in today society as research states that the top 10 ways to help prevent and protect individuals from zombie are; changing their homes to a remote location where individuals are not in danger from a potential virus, build doors and walls out of wood and metal, have weapons ready, create traps, sound diverastion and more including running. However for the government section their is no protection in place for an invasion but if it does occur it is likely for the services to treat this similar to a terrorist attack in the sense of lock down.
This will develop my documentary through reassuring the audience is an humours way in order for the dramatisation/ entertain side of the idea, as when interviewing the expert I have for the security measures I will be able to link back to the secondary information I have gathered so far.

4) Why would a zombie invasion happen? Some reasons of why it could happen could range from virus infections which affect the most important organ function which is the brain. However due to new studies there are drugs that create a similar zombie like factors which is to do with the brain giving signals to the rest of the body. This drug 'Bath salts' contain substitude cathinone, that have effects similar to amphetamine and cocaine. Some of these side effects of the drug range from excessive anger, paranoia, psychosis, agitation and even eating human flesh! Due to the drug becoming more and more popular this is result in serve injuries, incidents and even death. As a result of this many more individuals are willing to try create an invasion themselves to minick the undead. The research I have found out would allow me to develop my documentary through interviewing medical professionals on the danger these drugs have on the human body and what permenant effects are there too. This would also allow me to create a summary of all the different potential hazards that could be prevented and gain opinions of individual as this will as me to create a balance throughout the documentary.

5) When is it believed for the zombie apocalypse to occur? There are many opinions on when an apocalypse could occur in the future but the timing is unsure. However some opinion stated on the internet suggest that scientists could possibly cause this apocalypse to occur through the medical side of creating a virus through injecting it into the body of individual to create a zombie like creation. This a done by scientists shutting down specific parts of the brain which signals the rest of the body react in a way which effect the body overall, for example similar to the bath salt drugs. Through this research I found out that this would take a very long time to produce enough viruses to effect the whole universe. This information will allow me to develop my documentary on how realistic it is through the timescale of when it could actually happen this will allow me to add people opinion on it.
